Split or Stunt? Kermit & Miss Piggy Breakup, Get a TV Show
#Divorce is trending, as celebs like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stephani and Gavin Rossdale and Reba McEntire and whoever the heck she was married to call it quits. But when it comes to real A-list splits, the big surprise is the conscious uncoupling this week of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. No reason given, but perhaps he was am-FIB-ianing a lot. Or perhaps she found someone making more bacon. Hopefully, they had a prenup, because it’s not easy splitting all that green.
As is the protocol these days, the announcement comes via Twitter, somehow perfectly timed to promote the Muppets new TV show this fall on ABC. In fact, the whole thing is conveniently playing out on social media.
Naturally, the power couple’s breakup has the Twitterverse feeling some sort of way.
Celebs are jumping in too, hoping to catch a ride on the PR wave of #TeamKermit or #TeamMissPiggy.
Talk about making a pig of himself, retailer Marc Jacobs has the most overt plug.
As the requisite online trailer for the Muppets ABC series indicates, the break has been a long time coming. In Kermit’s own words, Miss Piggy “made my life a bacon-wrapped nightmare”. Meantime, Kermit’s already moved on to another pig named Denise, who just happens to work in the marketing department at ABC. Miss Piggy isn’t wasting any time, either. She’s back on the market with a new Tinder account, with the demand all frogs on the app take a hike (or a hop) and swipe left.
