Client Spotlight: FOX 5 DC Takes Spotluck for a Spin Live on Air

The media can’t get enough of Spotluck, the APPetizing dining app that’s changing the way D.C. diners dine. Live from the FOX 5 DC studios, Good Day DC’s Steve Chenevey tries his luck and scores big with the help of Spotluck Co-Founder and CEO Cherian Thomas.

Spotluck, which started off as Thomas’ capstone project during his time at Georgetown University, takes the guesswork out of figuring out where to eat and helps diners snag deals at nearly 300 local restaurants. The app takes cues from the hotel industry’s yield management pricing model by offering discounts based on factors like date, time and weather. “We truly feel that prices in a restaurant on a Tuesday at 2 p.m. when it’s raining shouldn’t be the same as the prices in a restaurant on a Friday night at 5 p.m.,” explains Thomas.

Here’s how the money-saving app works: You get one spin a day at one of the many hubs in Washington, D.C. Maryland or Virginia. Each hub has its own wheel to spin, filled with a carefully-curated selection of the best, foodie-approved restaurants in the area. Wherever the wheel lands is where you get the maximum discount, which can be be up to 35 percent off your food and drink bill. Even if you don’t lock-in the maximum discount, you’ll always get 10 percent off at any other restaurant in the hub. Saving and supporting local businesses is a win-win for diners and restauranteurs.
