OTMM Client Dr. Onyewu Exposes the Dangers of Illegal Injections on NBC4 and WTOP 103.5 FM
Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj are celebrities known for their bootylicious backsides. Now, women are undergoing a dangerous and illegal procedure to try and get these coveted looks. It’s called “Getting Pumped,” and is becoming a life-threatening trend.
OTMM client, plastic surgeon Dr. Chukwuemeka Onyewu with Jamachi Plastic Surgery and Medispa was featured on NBC4 Washington and WTOP 103.5 FM exposing the dangers of these illegal procedures taking place in hotels and apartments around DC, Maryland and Virginia where women seeking to enlarge their backsides are being injected with liquid silicone.
In many cases, these illegal injections are leaving women disfigured with uneven buttocks, lumpy skin and swollen lymph nodes – just to name a few. Serious health risks like kidney failure have also been seen and not to mention – death.
“Regular college students, housewives, working women will come in saying I want the Kim Kardashian look,” says Onyewu. “More recently, the Nicki Minaj look.”
But, there are serious health risks behind these illegal “pumping parties” taking place behind closed doors and hotel rooms. In Philadelphia, a woman faces charges after a client died from the illegal cosmetic procedure. In Baltimore, another woman pleaded guilty to endangering her customers by injecting industrial grade silicone that was intended for use in furniture polish.
In many of these “pumping parties,” the administrators have no training, yet charge hundreds to thousands of dollars to inject silicone directly into the body. The procedure is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Onyewu, whose office is located in Silver Spring, MD, says the number of patients coming to him desperate to have the silicone removed has increased dramatically. Dr. Onyewu is one of the few plastic surgeons who works to remove the illegal silicone, but, says it can take months—even years—to correct the problem.
“People are dying,” says Nicole, a victim interviewed in the NBC4 segment. “Are you really gonna die to have a big butt?”
