NBC4 Spotlights Spotluck: The App That’s Revolutionizing Dining In The DMV
NBC4 discovers the #1 dining app that’s sweeping the Washington, D.C. metro area one restaurant at at time. It’s called Spotluck, and the app’s co-founder and CEO, Cherian Thomas, joins NBC4’s Angie Goff to discuss how the discount app solves the age old dining dilemma of choosing where to eat out.
As Goff reports, Spotluck has quickly become popular, offering dining deals that just can’t be beat. Here’s how it works. You pick a neighborhood (or hub) and spin a wheel to score a deal. Wherever you land is where you score the biggest discount of the day. Each hub has its own wheel to spin, each filled with a curated selection of the best, foodie-approved restaurants in the area. The discount saves “Spotluckers” up to 35% and is based on factors like date, time and the weather.
This is Spotluck’s media debut–and it’s a big one. NBC4 is a ratings leader in DC. In the report, Thomas explains the idea that first inspired the app. “Prices in a restaurant on a Tuesday at 2pm when its raining should not be the same as prices in a restaurant on a Friday night at 6pm.”
But diners aren’t the only ones winning with Spotluck, Goff learns. The app helps restaurants get more traffic on slower days and acquire feedback from customers through Spotluck customer reviews. Over 200 restaurants have signed onto Spotluck so far, spanning 15 hubs including Arlington, Dupont, Georgetown and Rockville. Some participating restaurants include Mussel Bar, Clyde’s, Tony and Joe’s and Martin’s Tavern, but you can check out the full list here.
Spotluck is the #1 Dining App nationwide on Apple’s App Store, and is also available at Google Play.
