The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates’s Maddie the Mammovan (a hot pink convertible stuck in the body of a big white van!) will be at the Sheehy Ford in Marlow Heights on June 10th to provide free mammograms to qualified women. When it comes to breast cancer, early detection is key. When it’s detected early, the survival rate for breast cancer is 98%.

The doctors of George Washington University Medical Faculty Association have once again started up their mobile mammogram center, serving women in the DC metropolitan area. Madeline Mammovan has been making stops all around the region to offer in-vehicle mammograms and breast health information free of charge to any woman who is uninsured and makes an appointment. The van is fully equipped and FDA certified to perform mammogram screenings.

With the help of a generous grant from the Prevent Cancer Foundation, GW MFA started the Mobile Mammography Program in 1996 with a mission to offer mammograms to detect breast cancer to local women. The pink and white van and convertible named Madeline Mammovan frequently visits low income areas in effort to make having a mammogram scan easier to access for women residing there who might not be able to afford the testing otherwise along with creating a more comfortable environment for patients. Some areas include various businesses and public areas such as Covington & Burling, LLP and Sheehy Ford Dealership.
