Get Covered: The Types of Insurance Every Business Needs
When disaster strikes, the threat isn’t just to your life and safety. Your business’ survival is at stake too. All too often, many businesses suffer damage and loss, only to discover too late that their existing insurance coverage isn’t enough. In his latest Huffington Post article, “I Got You Covered: Ensuring Your Business Has Insurance When You Need It,” author and attorney Jack Garson advises business owners on how to fully protect their companies against the worst.
Although there have been record natural disasters in the U.S. the past few years, floods, tornadoes and hurricanes aren’t the only threats to your business. Employee and customer injuries, fires and lawsuits may happen when you least expect it. When you buy insurance, you shouldn’t be simply checking boxes. Triple check to make sure you’re purchasing all the protection your business needs.
Garson recommends to begin with the basics. The many types of insurance that address the risks and threats facing your business fall into three categories: 1) injuries and death, 2) damage to property, and 3) executive protection. Be mindful that not enough insurance, the wrong insurance or bad insurance may make it seem that your existing coverage was bought in vain.
Even with the right insurance, your company isn’t invincible. However, the right insurance will drastically minimize the likelihood that a crisis destroys your business.
