Client Spotlight: Score! Marlo Promises Free Furniture If Redskins or Ravens Make Opening Kickoff Return Touchdown

Free. It’s the four letter word everyone loves. And it’s what Marlo Furniture is promising DC-area football fans this season in a promotion that could cost the chain millions. Already, The Washington Post, The Washington Business Journal, News Channel 8, CSN, ESPN 980, and Sportress of Blogitude are covering the impressive proposition, that could leave Marlo’s shoppers with thousands of dollars of savings in free furniture.

The contest rules are simple. If the Ravens or Redskins score a return touchdown on the first or second half opening kickoff in week 1 of the NFL season, all Marlo customers who buy furniture in Alexandria, Forestville, Laurel, Rockville and Fredericksburg between August 17 and August 23 will receive a 100% refund.

Marlo hopes the promotion will prompt DC-area football fans to hold off on buying hotdogs and nachos, and instead buy their furniture. But what are the actual odds of a touchdown turning into a total home makeover? Not too shabby, considering that in the past 3 years, 25 kickoffs have been returned for a touchdown in NFL games.

Either way, it’s a win-win for shoppers. Even if the return touchdown doesn’t play out, Marlo customers will still receive 50% savings on killer cross-store sales throughout the week. Sports fans across the DMV are already shopping, saving their receipts and holding their breath until the big games on September 13 that mark the start of the NFL season–and hopefully, lots of free furniture.
