Client Spotlight: News Channel 8 Talks Staying Safe on Your Winter Run
Thinking about those New Year’s Resolutions you made to get back in shape? Luckily, the cold weather doesn’t have to get in the way of kickstarting your fitness goals. Certified running coaches and co-owners of Run Farther, Run Faster, Julie Sapper and Lisa Reichmann are featured on News Channel 8’s Good Morning Washington to share their tips for a perfect winter run.
Cold weather doesn’t have to be intimidating. Coach Julie Sapper says exercising outdoors not only requires the correct physical warm-ups, but the right mental attitude as well. “Don’t be intimidated by the cold. Once you embrace it and have the right gear, it’s really important to warm up well,” explains Julie. She suggests dynamic stretching like jumping jacks or a brisk walk to get you going for your winter run.
Another key recommendation is to keep your extremities warm using hand and neck warmers. More ideas:
-Dress as if it’s 15 degrees warmer
-Use Yaktrax (they’re like snow chains for your sneakers)
-Wear reflective clothing and LED lights at night
