Addicted to Apple: Chris Reid’s Path to Recovery
While techies worldwide are already lining up for the just-announced Apple iPhone 6s and iPad Pro, On The Marc Media’s resident web designer Chris Reid is comfortably at home, not paying any attention to the hype. It’s truly a remarkable transition, given that Chris was once an Apple aficionado who owned just about every device the company created. But now, it can be said, Chris ‘in recovery,’ at least outwardly happy with his choice to go all Windows and Android.
What made him call it quits with Apple? Simply put, Chris thinks Apple products have too many limitations. Because of the switch, Chris now uses editing software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, popular programs still not compatible with the iPad. He also says his new phone downloads files the iPhone couldn’t, pointing out that “Android phones are more like a full blown computer.”
“I needed to go back to Windows and Android to free myself up” Chris explains. He adds that while Apple makes a good product, the marketing is what sucks you in the most. Maybe the marketing is what seduced Chris to go back to the iPhone three or four times before he fully recovered and walked away from Apple for good.
It is especially challenging to stay clean on days like this when there is a new iPhone announcement and triggers are everywhere. “It’s hard, I do want to get in line” Chris admits. Overall, however, he is happier with his decision and walks away from his dependency on Apple, one day at a time.
