Client Spotlight: Flying High with Type 1 Diabetes
Nothing can stand in the way of one’s dreams, not even type 1 diabetes. It didn’t stop Jason Harmon, Chief Technology Officer and Founding Partner at Get Real Health. He appeared on NewsChannel 8 to discuss his upcoming Diabetes Formation Flight USA 2014. He will be joining other private pilots with insulin-treated diabetes for the annual Diabetes Formation Flight on June 28th from Lincoln, Nebraska to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The purpose of the flight is to show that diabetes can be safely managed in flight, compared to previous decades when medical devices were not suitable for in-flight conditions. Harmon and other pilots with diabetes hope to make the case for policy changes. Prior to 1996, diabetic patients were banned from flying any type of aircraft in the U.S. Now, the FAA allows pilots with insulin-dependent diabetes to fly private, not commercial, planes if they meet certain standards.
Jason shares how his personal struggles inspired him to develop Get Real Health’s InstantPHR™ platform that he can use to better manage diabetes and other chronic conditions.
