Jamachi’s Dr. Onyewu Talks Winter Skincare on WUSA 9
Between the harsh weather outdoors and blasting heat indoors, your skin can’t catch a break during the winter. And we’re not just talking about during the Polar Vortex.
On the air at WUSA 9, Dr. Chukwuemeka Onyewu of Jamachi Plastic Surgery & Medispa in Silver Spring, MD made the point that winter is nearly as rough on your skin as summertime. Why? Skin tends to dry out in extreme cold, because pores close up and block the oils your body naturally produces. The result: sun damage, abrasions, inflammation, irritation and worst of all, premature aging.
Dr. Onyewu says the key to keeping your skin soft and smooth during winter is taking your existing skincare regimen to the next level:
-
Avoid long, hot baths and showers that dry out the skin. Opt for shorter ones with lukewarm water.
-
Moisturize often, especially after bathing and showering.
-
Use sunscreen. You can still get a sunburn in the winter.
-
Drink plenty of water and cut down on the caffeine.
