Allergy Season Is Nothing To Sneeze At
Spring is in the air – and the pollen count is spiking! On the Marc Media’s Marc Silverstein chatted with Dr. Dipa Sheth of The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates about seasonal allergies and how to cope with them. In the video below, Dr. Sheth explains that our mild winter combined with the rapid heat spike earlier this week resulted in a sudden influx of allergens, so if you’re sneezing and sniffling, you’re not alone.
25% of Americans have seasonal hay fever and people who have both allergies and asthma are generally the most miserable in the spring. Allergies can exacerbate your asthma – but there are some easy remedies. Nasal steroids and saline washes, closing windows, washing the pollen out of your hair before bed, and allergen immunotherapy can all reduce allergy related asthma attacks.
Dr. Sheth encourages people to begin their anti-allergy routine (medication, nasal sprays, etc.) two weeks before allergy season begins. If you are unsure what you are sensitized to, a simple 15-minute skin test in a doctor’s office can indicate your environmental agitators.
Allergies, according to Dr. Sheth, are an easily managed problem, so don’t let them ruin this beautiful weather!
