On Air: Dr. Brian Paris Discusses the Dangers of Sitting too Much on NewsChannel 8
This is news you don’t want to take sitting down: “Sitting is the new smoking,” Dr. Brian Paris of Advanced Wellness Systems tells anchor Larry Smith on Good Morning Washington. That’s right, one of the biggest dangers to your health is seemingly unavoidable everywhere you go. You sit at your kitchen table eating breakfast, sit in your car, sit at your desk all day at work and then sit on your couch at home relaxing.
Digestive issues, diabetes, obesity, and even an increased likelihood of developing cancer are all linked with too much sitting. However, there are several easy fixes. A Wobble chair allows you to move without leaving your seat and exercise your legs, back and abdominal muscles. There is even a desk that transforms to give you the option of staying seated or standing up.
One easy to follow strategy is spending five minutes moving around for every 25 minutes of work. You can get up for a drink of water or do a quick stretch right at the side of your desk, and there’s no need to get fancy here, a cheap timer will do the trick.
