All News Station WNEW Takes a Spin with Spotluck: The #1 Dining App
On air and of major interest, Spotluck is in the D.C. media spotlight again as the focus of several reports on all news radio WNEW. Reporter Kimberly Suiters even tried Spotlucking herself, with great results.
Spotluck is the nation’s number one dining app on iTunes. As CEO and co-founder Cherian Thomas explains to Suiters, the app helps stop the usual debate between family and friends about where to eat. Just select a neighborhood, spin the on-screen wheel, and lock in a smart discount that ranges from 10% up to 30%. Then enjoy your meal.
The thinking that inspired the app: yield management. Thomas says, “Prices in a restaurant on a Tuesday at 2 p.m. when its raining should not be the same as prices in a restaurant on a Saturday night when it’s beautiful out.” The idea has caught on. Spotluck is now being used by nearly 250 restaurants in 17 neighborhoods, including Georgetown, Arlington, Dupont Circle, Chinatown and more.
Suiters Spotluck spin landed on the legendary Martin’s Tavern in Georgetown, where, just by coincidence, she was interviewing Thomas. Her savings: a perfect 25 percent! And as Thomas explains on air, the reason for the great deal? It was raining. Spotluck is available on Apple’s App Store, and Google Play.
