Client Spotlight: Dr. Onyewu Discusses Black Market Butt Injections on WUSA9
In an effort to emulate bootylicious beauties like Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj, women are seeking out black market butt injections. Unbeknownst to them, many pay a hefty price for their instant backsides.
Dr. Chukwuemeka Onyewu of Jamachi Plastic Surgery & Medispa recently discussed the phenomenon of illegal butt injections with WUSA 9. “Over the last couple of years, and certainly in the last six months, I’m seeing a rash of people who’ve had these injections done who are coming back with problems,” says Dr. Onyewu.
Women are choosing these back alley injections over implants because of cost and convenience. Initially, there’s very little recovery time and the price is usually a few hundred dollars, as opposed to as much as $10,000 for implants from a board-certified plastic surgeon.
The toxic shots are usually administered at invite-only, Tupperware Party-style “pumping parties.” The mixture of silicone, motor oil, Fix-a-Flat and other materials often leads to complications–physical disfiguration, organ failure, and even death.
Although Dr. Onyewu is highly sought after to reverse the damage caused by illegal butt injections, he admits a lot of plastic surgeons shy away from treating botched backsides, because the procedure to do so is unprecedented and not taught in medical school.
