No marketing effort is successful without the data to back it up. Without accurate data analysis, you’ll never know if your marketing is meeting its goals or just spinning in the wind. Here are four tips for how to track your marketing efforts to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck:

  1. Install Google Analytics and ensure your website is equipped to handle increased volumes of traffic. There’s nothing more frustrating than going to a website to purchase a product or find out more about a company only to find it’s not able to handle your request.

  2. Everyone at your company should be aware of current marketing efforts. If you’ve got a new ad campaign or promotion, be sure that every employee–from those on the sales frontline to those in the warehouse–knows it’s happening. And make sure whoever answers calls is tracking leads.

  3. Test your website for any broken links. Again, nothing annoys customers faster than a website that doesn’t work properly. Save yourself the heartache by checking your website frequently.

  4. Create a reporting document to track leads, expenses and effectiveness of advertising so you know what’s working and what isn’t Keep in mind, results can take time to generate. So don’t expect to know tomorrow whether a promotion you introduced today is working.

The closer you track your marketing efforts, the more you’ll understand about their effectiveness. This will mean that you can better hone future campaigns accordingly, increasing your return on investment.
