There’s No Hiding from Facebook
If you use Facebook’s privacy feature in order to be unsearchable, be prepared to say goodbye to your anonymity. Facebook is getting rid of this feature for good.
The popular social media site initially got rid of the privacy setting last year, but allowed those who used it before the feature was discontinued to continue using the site in secret. In the next few weeks, however, Facebook will rid the site of the privacy feature for good. Anyone who does not want to be searchable will have to instead block specific people they don’t want to see their profile.
“People told us that they found it confusing when they tried looking for someone who they knew personally and couldn’t find them in search results, or when two people were in a Facebook Group and then couldn’t find each other through search,” said Facebook’s chief privacy officer, Michael Richter. So heads up, all you secret Facebook users. You will begin seeing notifications about the end of the privacy setting in the next few weeks.
