#GivingTuesday: Feeling Charitable?
Let’s be honest, after the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday you might be overindulged with shopping. In case you need help getting back to the holiday spirit, that feeling you get when helping others might do the trick–that’s what #GivingTuesday is all about. Don’t know where to start? We’re here to help.
1. Two massive powerhouses, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Facebook have joined forces to contribute up to $1 million to fundraisers on Facebook. The Gates Foundation will match $500,000 in donations to fundraisers while Facebook waives up to $500,000 in fees. Simply visit facebook.com/fundraisers, find a cause that inspires you and donate.
2. Ever dreamed of playing alongside the Golden State Warriors’ very own Steph Curry? Well here’s your chance. Make a donation to Nothing But Nets and team up with the basketball MVP in taking a stand in the fight against Malaria to help distribute bed nets in sub-Saharan Africa. Each minute a child dies from Malaria caused by disease-carrying mosquitoes, however one insecticide-treated net can save a life.
- We’ve all seen the video where a Chicago woman berated the Michaels employee the day before Thanksgiving. Jessie Grady, who filmed the incident, created a GoFundMe called “Stand Strong Against Racism” to support the employee. The page managed to smash its initial goal of $400 and has now raised over $20,000. It seems as though the woman has a knack for ranting, this past July she was filmed attacking a Peet’s Coffee and Tea employee.
- Feeding America is an immense hunger-relief charity that helps more than 46 million Americans yearly. For each dollar donated, Feeding America will distribute 11 meals to those facing hunger.
