It used to be that in order to broadcast anything, you’d need a journalist, huge cameras, expensive satellites and time to set everything up. Now, with this ground-breaking app, anyone can be reporter while broadcasting live straight off their iPhone in an instant.
Meerkat is the latest social media platform that has been dubbed the “next big thing.” It is a live streaming video app that links to your twitter allowing your followers access to your Meerkat stream in realtime. There are no reruns on Meerkat, so once the stream has ended there is no way to go back and replay videos. However, if you do happen to capture something amazing, the app allows you to save your videos right on to your camera roll.
Our very own, Marc Silverstein, discusses with WTOP digital reporter Neal Augenstein about Meerkat – how to use it, its multiple uses and an important feature of the app. Some key topics they discuss are how revolutionary the app is to the reporting/broadcasting industry, concerns for notable figures, FOMO and how the app could have potential negatives.
Check out the video above to listen to the entire interview and watch Neal demonstrate how to use the new app.
