On the Diamond, in the Rough: On The Marc Media’s Baseball Team’s Big Rivalry

In the battle of classic baseball rivalries, there’s the Yankees vs. Boston in the Northeast. In Pennsylvania, it’s the Phillies against the Pirates. And of course, here in suburban DC, there’s the simmering feud between Carmen’s Italian Ice and On The Marc Media. (What? You thought were going to say Orioles vs. Nationals?)

Carmen’s is an established team of talented middle-schoolers in the Rockville Baseball Association. Sponsored by a very popular Italian ice store, the players have been together for a few years and have gelled into a bit of a powerhouse. (Full disclosure: On The Marc Media’s owner’s son Spencer plays for Carmen’s.)

Going up against them: a new, young, vibrant team sponsored by none other than On The Marc Media. Clad in the media powerhouse’s electric blue, and sporting an 0-for-2013 record, the OTMM team went up against the archrival Carmen’s this past week. OTMM jumped to a commanding 3-0 lead—and hung tough throughout the game. Unfortunately, an unexpected sugar buzz fueled by too much Italian ice helped Carmen’s eek out the pitcher’s duel, winning something like 13-3 (or more, but who’s counting?)

Post game: the OTMM players vowed to win at least one game this year, not for the Gipper, but so we can brag about them again in this blog. Carmen’s may have won this round (Yeah, Spencer and team!), but look out, On The Marc Media’s bats are about to come alive!
